Orthodox Christian Education – An Unending Activity of our Local Parish and our Homes

The Better children know God, the better they can love Him!

Orthodox Christian education is an ongoing activity that takes place every day in our local parishes and our homes. Yes, every community activity, e.g., social hour, parish annual assembly, youth rally, Sunday school, etc. is an educational activity. The community is the place for us to grow in holiness, to experience spiritual healing, and the place where we are challenged to live our Orthodox faith as holy men, women, and children. According to this understanding, then every member of a local Eucharistic community is a life-long student and teacher. Of course the same can be applied to our homes. The parents cannot teach their children if they themselves are not open to growing in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

At St. George, we have a dedicated superintendant and teachers who eagerly assist our students in learning and growing in the Orthodox Faith.

Young Adult Group

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6)

Aside from dealing with the struggle of rapid changes during teenage years, young people are called to bear witness to Jesus Christ to those younger than they, their peers, and even to their elders.

St. George Young Adult Group fellowships strive to equip our young people for the challenges ahead as well as to help them integrate into the total life of the Church.

The Young Adult Group includes students ages 14 – 25. The Coordinator of this group is Mrs. Melanie Milicevic.

For fellowship meetings, please contact our church office 619-276-5827 or Fr. Bratso Krsic at frbratso@sbcglobal.net

Regular Monthly Activities

St. George/Home Fellowships

These gatherings give opportunities for discussion on a variety of topics relating to our diverse lives and shared Faith, as well as for coordinating and updating everyone regarding our fellowship activities.

St. George Tutors & Greeters

Integration of the young adults into the life of St. George parish includes regular participation as tutors and greeters on at least the first Sunday of the month. These duties entail preparing the church for services, offering a warm greeting, distributing bulletins and ushering congregants.

Volunteering at the Local Philanthropic Organizations

This commitment is to help local San Diego philanthropic organization in assisting those in need.

AOF – Adult Orthodox Fellowship

“Command and teach these things. Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (1 Tim. 4:11-16)

Adult Orthodox Fellowship meets once a month.

St. George Adult Orthodox Fellowship strives to equip our young people for the challenges ahead as well as to help them integrate into the total life of the Church.

Adult Christian Education

St. George parish is pleased to present a wonderful selection of adult Christian education opportunities. Our goal is to offer several ways in which the Word of God speaking through Scripture, fellowship, and Orthodox Christian spiritual practice can feed everyone.

Opportunities for Adult Learning

We offer Wednesday evening classes from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

At Saint George parish, we have a strong program of Christian education for adults that stresses not only learning but also fellowship and fun. We offer Wednesday evening classes from 7:00pm to 9:00pm as well as many evening series throughout the year, including programs during the Nativity Fast and the Great Lent. We like to vary what we offer, from programs to help newcomers feel more at home, to programs featuring exploration of Holy Scripture or adult spirituality issues.

Why attend Christian education?

  • It’s a way to learn more about our Orthodox Faith.
  • It’s a way to grow ever closer to God and to deepen our sense of God working in the world, in good times and in difficult ones as well.
  • It helps us to learn how to cope with disappointment and challenges in our lives.
  • It’s a great way to meet more people and become more connected with our parish community.

The community is the place to grow in holiness…

to experience spiritual healing, and the place where we are challenged to live our Orthodox faith as holy men, women, and children. According to this understanding, then every member of a local Eucharistic community is a life-long student and teacher. Of course the same can be applied to our homes. The parents cannot teach their children if they themselves are not open to growing in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ. May we all grow in faith and into infinite communion with the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May God grant it!

The topics for classes range from Bible study and practical theology to issues of marriage and family relationships. The teaching style and class format also vary according to the class. Whoever you are, there are bound to be a number of opportunities you will not want to miss.
