A SPECIAL APPEAL FOR KOSOVO AND METOHIJA
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
We hope and pray that you and your loved ones are doing well this Nativity Fast season.
In anticipation of the Nativity of our Lord and as part of our Lenten almsgiving, we write to you today asking you to contribute to our Special Appeal for Kosovo and Metohija. Decades long persecution and murdering of Serbian people, destruction of churches, monasteries, cemeteries, and other Serbian monuments and sites is well known to you all.
During the March Pogrom of 2004 [3/17-18/’04] in the organized action of 50,000 Kosovo Albanian rioters, 19 persons lost their lives, several hundreds were wounded, more than 900 Serbian homes were burned or damaged and an additional 4000 Serbs (beside the already exiled 200,000 refugees from 1999) were forced out of their homes. The extremists particularly targeted Serbian Orthodox sites. In total, 35 churches and monasteries were destroyed including many holy items and icons. Regrettably, this unprecedented act of vandalism did not happen during wartime but rather in the presence of the thousands of international personnel, Kosovo Police and the UNMIK administration, none of whom has ever taken responsibility for their failures.
Just recently, the illicit Kosovo officials have raised the import tax [100%] on all goods brought from Serbia. Needless to say, this is just another employed tactic to drive away the Serbian population from their homes making the heart of Serbia, Kosovo, an illegally ethnic Albanian territory.
More than ever before, our brothers and sisters in Kosovo and Metohija need our help. We appeal to you today to help us collect funds for much needed medicines and medical supplies. Your donation will make a difference! Our parishioner Đorđe Petrović has initiated this effort and he is reaching out to his various contacts to aid us in this labor of love.
